Privacy / Summiter for iPhone and iPad
Summiter Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy
Effective September 27, 2026.
This policy is provided under Washington's My Health My Data Act (RCW 19.373). It covers the Summiter app for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, made by Eirik Rude. Our general privacy policy is at fjell.ballangrud.com/privacy#summiter-ios.
Summiter processes the data below only on your own devices. We run no servers and never receive it.
1. Consumer health data we collect, and how it is used
| Category | How it is used |
|---|---|
| Flights of stairs climbed, read from Apple Health: recent daily counts, and your full history if you choose to count past flights | To calculate your floor total, route position, landmarks reached, pace and estimated arrival dates; to show them in the app, widgets, complications and Apple Watch app; and to send summit notifications |
| Names, identifiers and recent totals of the apps and devices that recorded your flights | To let you choose which source counts, and to ask you when a new source appears |
| Information derived from your flights: floor total, manual adjustments you enter, landmarks reached and the dates you reached them, pace and estimated arrival dates | The same uses as above |
| Your floor total from Summiter on your Garmin watch, only if you turn on Garmin sync | To keep your iPhone and Garmin climbs in step |
This data is used only to provide Summiter's features.
2. Sources of consumer health data
- Apple Health on your iPhone or iPad, with your permission. Apple Health may hold flights recorded by your iPhone, your Apple Watch, or other apps you have allowed to write to Health.
- Summiter on your Apple Watch and on your Garmin watch, when they sync with your iPhone.
- You, when you choose which source counts or enter a manual adjustment.
3. Consumer health data we share
- Your total floor count, only if you turn on Garmin sync. It is sent, with technical sync values (a sync counter, the counting mode and the Garmin app edition), through Garmin Connect on the same device to Summiter on your Garmin watch.
- The contents of a share card, only when you tap Share. This is a landmark, your floor total, the floors left to go and how many landmarks you have reached.
- Your saved climb, as part of Apple's device services. It travels between your iPhone and Apple Watch over Apple's Watch Connectivity (Summiter on iPad keeps its own climb and does not sync it), and it is included in your device backups if you use them.
We do not sell consumer health data.
4. Third parties and affiliates we share with
- Garmin, through its Garmin Connect app, only if you turn on Garmin sync
- The people and apps you choose in the iOS share sheet
- Apple, as the provider of the iOS, iPadOS and watchOS services described above
We have no affiliates.
5. How to exercise your rights
Under Washington law you have the right to:
- confirm whether we collect, share or sell your consumer health data, and access that data
- get a list of all third parties and affiliates with whom we have shared or sold it, with their contact information
- withdraw your consent to our collection and sharing of it
- have it deleted
Because this data is kept only on your devices, you can act on most of these yourself, right away:
- Access: everything Summiter holds about your climb is shown in the app.
- Withdraw consent: in the Health app, tap your profile picture, open Apps under Privacy, choose Summiter, and turn off Flights Climbed. Turn off Garmin sync in Summiter's settings.
- Delete: delete Summiter from your iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, and remove it from your Garmin watch using the Connect IQ Store app. This erases everything the app has saved.
You can also make any of these requests by emailing fjell@ballangrud.com with the subject “Health data request”. We will respond without undue delay and within 45 days. If we need more time, we may extend this once by 45 days and will tell you why.
Appeals
If we decline to act on your request, you can appeal by emailing fjell@ballangrud.com with the subject “Health data appeal”. We will tell you in writing, within 45 days of receiving your appeal, what action we took or did not take and why. If we deny your appeal, you can submit a complaint to the Washington State Attorney General at www.atg.wa.gov/file-complaint.
Changes to this policy
Before we collect a new category of consumer health data, or collect, use or share it for a new purpose, we will update this policy and ask for your consent in the app.
