Something not working?

Email goes straight to the person who wrote the code. Include the app name and your device — watch model, or iPhone or iPad and its iOS version — and it will be a much shorter conversation.

Garmin Connect IQ apps

Common questions

How do I install an app?

Open the app's page on the Connect IQ Store and press Download. If you are on a phone, the Connect IQ mobile app queues the install and it transfers the next time your watch syncs with Garmin Connect. Installs do not happen over the store website alone — the watch has to sync.

I installed it, but it is not on my watch.

Open Garmin Connect on your phone and let it complete a sync while the watch is in Bluetooth range. Watch faces then appear under Watch Face settings on the device, and watch apps under the activity or app list. If it still has not arrived, a Bluetooth reconnect usually clears it.

Where do I change the settings?

In the Connect IQ mobile app, open My Device, then Watch Faces or Apps, pick the app and choose Settings. Several apps also expose their settings directly on the watch. Changes made on the phone take effect after the next sync.

A data field shows blank or dashes.

That means the value is genuinely unavailable rather than broken — the sensor is not present on your device, or the metric has not been recorded recently. Heart rate needs the optical sensor enabled; altitude needs a barometric model; VO2 max and recent pace need a logged run. Fields that your watch cannot support are faded rather than shown as zero.

Does this drain my battery?

It should not. Always-on frames are drawn as a sparse low-power render that stays inside Garmin's lit-pixel limit, and second hands in low-power mode update under a tight clip region. If you are seeing a real drop in battery life, that is a bug worth reporting — please email me.

Do you collect any of my data?

No. There is no account, no subscription, no analytics and no network transmission of any kind. Permissions an app requests are used on-device for a stated feature and are listed on that app's own page.

I bought the paid app. Do I lose my progress from the free one?

No. Summiter Free hands your floor total to the full version, so your climb carries over rather than restarting at zero.

Refunds

Purchases are handled entirely by Garmin through the Connect IQ Store, so refunds go through Garmin support rather than through me. If the problem is a bug, email me first — a fix is usually faster than a refund.

Maiden

Questions or problems with Maiden: email fjell@ballangrud.com. The answers below cover the common ones, and the Maiden guides walk through each tool step by step.

Which NFC tags should I use?

Any NTAG213 tag works. For tags on LiPo packs, use anti-metal tags, which are made to read reliably on metal surfaces such as a battery pack.

Scanning a tag opens Safari instead of Maiden.

Make sure Maiden is installed and that you have opened it at least once. If Safari still opens, long-press the link and choose Open in Maiden.

iCloud sync is not working.

Check that each device is signed in to iCloud with the same Apple Account, and that iCloud Drive is turned on: Settings, then your name, then iCloud.

The Apple Intelligence features are missing.

They need iOS or iPadOS 26 on an iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence. They are optional; the rest of Maiden works without them.

The Apple Watch app is not showing.

Open the Watch app on your iPhone, scroll down to Available Apps, and tap Install next to Maiden.

Summiter for iPhone and iPad

Questions or problems with Summiter for iPhone and iPad: email fjell@ballangrud.com. For Summiter on a Garmin watch, see the Garmin questions above.

My floor total looks too high.

Apple Health collects flights from every app and device that records them, and two sources can overlap, such as an Apple Watch and Garmin Connect. In Summiter, open Base camp, tap Counting from, and choose the one source to count.

Summiter shows no stairs.

Check that Health access is on: in the Health app, tap your profile picture, open Apps under Privacy, choose Summiter, and turn on Flights Climbed. Your iPhone and Apple Watch record flights only while you carry or wear them. Base camp, then Health diagnostics, shows what Health has recorded from each source.

Summit alerts do not arrive.

Open Base camp and tap Enable summit alerts, or turn them on in Settings, then Notifications, then Summiter. An alert arrives when Health hands Summiter the new flights, which can be a little while after you climb.

I reached Everest. Can I climb again?

Yes. Tap Climb it again to start the route again from the Statue of Liberty. Every floor you have climbed is kept, and the ascent you finished stays on the record.

I unlocked the full climb, but it is locked on my new iPhone.

Open Base camp and tap Restore purchase, signed in with the Apple Account you bought it with. The purchase covers every device on that account, including your Apple Watch.

I bought Summiter on my Garmin watch. Does that unlock the iPhone app?

No. The Connect IQ Store and the App Store are separate, so a purchase in one cannot unlock the other, in either direction. Your climb can still sync between the two apps.

How do I sync Summiter with my Garmin watch?

On your iPhone, open Base camp, tap Garmin watch, turn on Sync with Garmin and choose your watch, which opens Garmin Connect. Then turn on iPhone Sync inside Summiter on the watch, and keep it in Cumulative mode: the two apps cannot agree on a position in reset-per-milestone mode.

The Apple Watch app is not showing.

Open the Watch app on your iPhone, scroll down to Available Apps, and tap Install next to Summiter.

How do I get a refund?

App Store purchases are refunded by Apple, at reportaproblem.apple.com. If the problem is a bug, email me first: a fix is usually faster than a refund.

Right Seat

Questions or problems with Right Seat: use Contact the developer in the app, which can attach the recent activity from the bridge, or email support@fjell.tech. Please add a screenshot of the readiness summary: tap the link status at the top of Right Seat, and say which version of Right Seat Bridge the PC runs: it's under More, then About. Can't connect? The setup guide has the steps and troubleshooting by symptom.

Right Seat can't find the bridge.

Check that Right Seat Bridge is running in the tray on the PC, and that the PC and your iPad or iPhone are on the same network, not a guest network: the tray menu lists the PC's networks and its address on each. Right Seat needs Local Network access: Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Local Network. If it still doesn't appear, enter the PC's address by hand under Advanced on the connect screen. The setup guide has fixes for the firewall, mesh systems and Wi-Fi 7.

The alerts don't arrive.

Turn on the alerts you want on Right Seat's Alerts tab, and check Settings, then Notifications, then Right Seat. A Focus such as Sleep holds them back unless Right Seat is allowed in it. The bridge sends them through Apple's push service, so the PC needs the internet. While Right Seat is open on screen, its banner and chime say it instead.

The alerts don't show on my Apple Watch.

The Watch shows the iPhone's alerts while the iPhone is locked and the Watch is on your wrist. On the iPhone, open the Watch app, then Notifications, then Right Seat, and make sure Mirror iPhone Alerts is on. No Watch app is needed.

ATC calls don't show in Right Seat.

Right Seat reads the sim's Communication and Mission Steps panels. Pop both out of the sim, as windows of their own, and keep them open. If the sim closes one, Right Seat tells you to pop it out again.

How do I send feedback?

In Right Seat, tap the bug in the top bar, or Contact the developer on the Help screen. You can see everything it sends before you send it, and add your email if you'd like a reply. Or email support@fjell.tech.

Does it work on Xbox or PlayStation 5?

No. Right Seat needs Right Seat Bridge, a Windows program that runs beside the sim on the same PC, so it works with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on a Windows PC only.

Does it work with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020?

No. Right Seat is made and tested for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 only.

Can I try it without a PC?

Yes. Tap Try a demo flight on Right Seat's first screen. It flies a made-up cruise from Bern to Barcelona inside the app, so every tab works without the PC or the sim.

Do I need to buy it twice for iPad and iPhone?

No. It's one app for iPad and iPhone, bought on the device from the App Store, and it's yours on every iPad and iPhone signed in to the same Apple Account. The bridge on the PC is free.

Does popping out panels cost frame rate?

It can. Reading ATC in career mode and the Screens tab both need panels popped out of the sim. DLSS frame generation doesn't work while a panel is popped out, and with V-Sync on, the sim can drop to 30 fps. The rest of Right Seat, from the sim-rate governor to the alerts and the map, needs no pop-outs.

Can Right Seat use GlassOut?

No. Right Seat reads the sim's own pop-outs. Panels shown through GlassOut or other capture tools aren't a source for it.

Do the alerts need the internet?

Yes, on the PC. Each alert goes from the bridge through Apple's push service, so with the PC offline they don't reach a locked iPad, your iPhone or your Apple Watch. While Right Seat is open on screen, its banner and chime still work over your local network.

How do I get a refund?

App Store purchases are refunded by Apple, at reportaproblem.apple.com. If the problem is a bug or a connection that won't work, email me first: a fix is usually faster than a refund.

Is Right Seat made by Microsoft or Garmin?

No. Right Seat isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Microsoft or Garmin. It's made by fjell, an independent studio.
