What you need
- The plans, flat and in good light
- A length printed on the plans, the longer the better
Steps
- Open the aircraft and tap Measure wing with camera.
- At the top, set From to Plans.
- Tap Scan plans and photograph the top view of the wing. Or tap Choose image of plans.
- Drag both handles onto the ends of a length printed on the plans.
- Enter that length under Real length, then tap Continue.
- Mark the root or the centerline, and adjust the corners as you would for a photo.
- Tap Show results, check the sizes against the plans, and tap Save.
Good to know
- Use the longest printed length you can find, such as the wingspan. Short lengths make small errors bigger.
- The same steps measure the stab. Set Measure to Horizontal stab at the top.
If it doesn't work
- The scan looks skewed
- Lay the plans flat and scan again. Let the scanner find the edges of the page.
Words used here
- CG
- Center of gravity: the point where the model balances. Too far back makes it unstable. Too far forward makes the nose hard to lift.
- Root
- The inner end of a wing or stab, where it meets the fuselage.
- Span
- The width of the wing from tip to tip. Half-span is one side, from the centerline to the tip.
